Health benefits of garlic

0
Winter is here and that means flu season is on the rise. Maybe some of us have watery eyes while others have a sore throat. Often these symptoms are not strong enough but are still a painful annoyance. Instead of suffering through the day, try cooking this garlic ginger soup recipe that can boost your immune system and relieve your symptoms immediately.
Health benefits of garlic
Garlic contains allicin, a compound known for its antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal, and antioxidant properties. It also affects the body by lowering blood pressure, supporting the digestive, circulatory and immune systems.
Garlic can also:
• Regulate high blood pressure
• Fight allergies
• Decrease plaque in the arteries
• Regulate blood sugar levels
• Expel parasites
• Reduce inflammation
• Help prevent weight gain
• Treat sore throats
• Soothe upper respiratory tract infections
Garlic is a vital source of vitamins and nutrients that can fight cold and flu symptoms. Researchers have conducted a twelve-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled study to evaluate the potency of allicin powder on cold symptoms.
The results showed that the powder reduced symptoms by more than 50%.
Health benefits of ginger
Ginger has been used for centuries to cure colds, fevers, digestive problems, and other conditions.
It is also a powerful anti-inflammatory and effective in calming arthritis. Many studies have shown its effectiveness in treating nausea and vomiting as well.
Researchers have shown that ginger contains antioxidant, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties, which are helpful in curing cold and flu symptoms.
Ginger & Garlic Cold & Flu Soup
Here's a recipe that combines these two superfoods in one soup, and it's meant to ease the symptoms of colds, flu, and sinus infections.
Ginger Garlic Soup
Ingredients:
• green onions, thinly sliced
• 1/4 cup of grated ginger
• garlic cloves, peeled and finely chopped
• cups chicken broth or broth (or vegetable broth for vegans)
• 1 medium chopped chili, finely chopped (it can be cayenne powder which is actually chili powder, and you can sprinkle a little in the soup when you like it).
Addresses:
1 Place the onions, garlic, and ginger in a large pot and gently sauté over low heat for 2 minutes.
2 Add the broth and bring the soup to a boil.
3 Cook over low heat until all ingredients are smooth.
4 Add the minced chili and simmer for 5 minutes before serving with warm, crisp bread.

Variations:
If you're not a fan of spicy food, swap the chili pepper for a pinch of cinnamon for other health benefits.
For a heartier soup, add carrots and butternut squash to the pot. Allow them to simmer until tender, then puree the soup.
If you want to turn the benefits of this cold soup into a complete meal, add sliced mushrooms, chopped broccoli, and diced organic chicken cutlets to the pot.
For vegan options, add beans instead of chicken. Add some brown rice or quinoa to individual plates and you've got an enriched ginger and garlic soup that fights the flu and cold.
Blindness is known to have a broad-ranging adverse influence on affected individuals, their families, and the societies in which they live and is exemplified by its association with impaired quality of life, worse general and mental health, curtailed life chances, and increased all-cause mortality. In a new study, researchers examined the association of visual health (across the full acuity spectrum) with social determinants of general health and the association between visual health and health and social outcomes.
